			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My dad had picked up a few flat of stone (I forget the type of rock, sorry) from a masonry store, and tossed one my way. He has yet to determine what type of materials he wants to use on his, however, after a trip to <a title="San Gabriel Nursery" href="http://www.sgnursery.com" target="_blank">San Gabriel Nursery</a>, I found a few Catlin Elms I wanted to use. A few photos below from making the clay border, to trimming roots (and realizing the elms were made from cuttings, to hoping it will recover well. I will do some wiring and trimming once these trees recover from having some of their rootball removed.</p>

I would say 50% of the plants were cuttings and the other 50% still had their roots when planted. I was thinking of taking this thing apart and making several others (as this one is way too heavy for how the frame is currently put together), however, if someone else wants to give it a go please do. I think it is about 4 feet long, so you can imagine how many succulent plants, which are ideal for SoCal weather, are in this thing.<br />

I would say (opinion) it is stil some time away before it starts bearing fruit.<br />

The legs of the set were sitting on the side of our house for some time, and I had been looking to finally get a chance to throw them away. However, with my family&#8217;s new venture at <a title="Inventive Roots" href="http://www.inventiveroots.com" target="_blank">Inventive Roots</a>, I wanted to try to utilize them, and some of the used wood that was left at my house by my <a title="Amy Tanaka" href="http://www.actanaka.com" target="_blank">sister</a>. I normally use raised gardens for much of the vegetables, and small plants that I am nursing and waiting to mature, however, with space, and not wanting to have more chicken wire all over the place, I decided to go vertical. The process was pretty easy, just took some time to put together in between my normal day job, and being a stay at home/working dad. Using the poles as shelves, and building up the wood to be able to support the poles would be my best advantage to accomplish this. I can simply hang baskets (I used pond baskets because of the areation possibilities (which I normally like to use for my tree seedlings), and I would also be able to remove poles, or slide out the baskets easy when I want to change, or add/subtract more plants out. The top row consists of assorted lettuce, cilantro and parsley. The second row is all seeds that my daughter had planted, which consist of sweet basil, green onions, and jalapenos.</td>

Our family is doing better, I now work remotely from home, and get to watch my little girl grow up. I can say things are more positive these days, but as I have written countless times in the past, it&#8217;s just not good enough. It&#8217;s not that I need to be extravagantly wealthy, but I do want to see my family continue to prosper, as well as my other family members and friends. This includes my extended families in the non profit world whom I will continue to vehemently support.</p>
<p>As this next year goes I hope to start some more ideas, as well as <a title="The BIg Juicy" href="http://www.thebigjuicy.com" target="_blank">The Big Juicy</a> and <a title="Inventive Roots" href="http://www.inventiveroots.com" target="_blank">Inventive Roots</a> ventures. There of course are frustrating times when I feel things are going a bit slow, and perhaps at times other become non responsive, so 2012 I want to continue to change that. My family, relatives, friends, and community in general need to thrive, and there will be a different effort towards that goal.</p>

Being the workaholic that I am, I found it increasingly frustrating to see individuals, and small businesses getting the help that they should have in design and development. I have the desire to want to touch all aspects of a layout, or how improve on some sort of user interface, but not having the 500 hours in a day to be able to take care of all that I would like. I also have a ton of talented folks that I work with off and on, that are freelancers, or consultants, and need a huge boost in working with fantastic clients.</p>
<p>I wanted to create my own, a business that is starting out as a company meant to help other companies with all things mobile, print and especially web, but also be able to expand into it&#8217;s own products eventually. So, finally, I wanted to be able to let people know that the work, and products that were going to be released from this company was going to be huge, and it would look so well done, that it would almost be delicious to the eye.</p>
<p>Therefore, as part of my blueprint of a first business, I created a business in an area that I knew well, thrived in, and was known for. This business was also built with the intention to help others that I knew did good work, and giving them a shot at working with great clients, and having fun doing it.</p>
<p>Hence, I give you&#8230; <a title="The BIg Juicy" href="http://www.thebigjuicy.com" target="_blank">The Big Juicy</a>.</p>

There haven&#8217;t been very man in history that have changed the world as the man above has. I haven&#8217;t always agreed personally, with some of the business decisions that he had made. However, who am I? The man above innovated like almost no other had, it&#8217;s a shadow of brilliance that he cast over the entire world that almost no one may be able to touch ever again.</p>
<p>I won&#8217;t focus on his products as much as I want to remember his life lessons that he taught us. <a title="Steve Jobs Stanford Speech" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1R-jKKp3NA" target="_blank">His Stanford speech</a> which became extremely popular, pretty much points to what we should all be following. It&#8217;s as if he  understood the direction of possibly where the meaning of life was. &#8220;Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish&#8221; pretty much summed up his points, however, his 3rd story on death during the commencement was probably his most honest of products he released.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Remembering that I&#8217;ll be dead soon is the most important tool I&#8217;ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure &#8211; these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Death, the reminder that we all don&#8217;t have long to mess around and be lazy, but to constantly stay on our feet and remember what&#8217;s important.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don&#8217;t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life&#8217;s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>I appreciate his candor, since we all seemed to want to ignore it, however, we tend to forget the concept of why we should always remember it.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Your time is limited, so don&#8217;t waste it living someone else&#8217;s life. Don&#8217;t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people&#8217;s thinking. Don&#8217;t let the noise of others&#8217; opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Remembering what&#8217;s important, and not wanting to dive into any political rhetoric, I believe this idea is necessary to move us forward as a human race. Remembering what&#8217;s important. Although many of us have never met him, his ideas enable us to do our daily activities, work, and play. He is someone whom quite possibly can be called one of the greatest CEO&#8217;s ever, and almost every entrepreneur should and does push for his same type of flare, showmanship, and utter brilliance.</p>
<p>I never knew him, but although news of his death brings a certain movement to my stomach as if someone had taken a sledgehammer to it. However, perhaps I, myself can use it as a wake up call to move more, and more freely. So the best dedication I can give Mr. Jobs tonight, is that I will remember the legacy he leads and simply:</p>
<p>&#8220;Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish&#8221;</p>
<p>RIP Steve, I don&#8217;t believe the world fully understands the entire gravity, of what the loss of you left today.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was debating on writing this, as I was wanting to share my personal perspective of what happened on September 11, 2001. However, I did not want to turn America&#8217;s greatest tragedy into thoughts about myself alone. Yet, I want to tell you where I was that morning. I wasn&#8217;t at Ground Zero, and my heart goes out to everyone there that lost loved ones, and those that went to rescue others in need. I wasn&#8217;t at the Pentagon, but my thoughts are with those that are missing their brothers, sisters, friends, husbands, and wives.</p>
<p>I was starting my professional career that day. It was my first day at Pacific Sunwear as a designer, and as I would come to be known, a developer. It was a surreal morning, listening to the news on the television as I got ready, and hearing nothing but horrific stories that were happening on the East Coast of our nation. I remember walking into work, and it being a very somber setting, as normally a pretty jovial group, had their faces flushed as we all continued to listen, and watched what was happening. Every one of our thoughts were set on the victims, the police, the fire fighters, and the families that were losing members. This isn&#8217;t how I picture the first day of my professional career, but perhaps it can be used as a beacon for something more.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.anthonytanaka.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/3910396118_8dffc534c1.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-759" title="US-ATTACKS-TRADE CENTER RUBBLE" src="http://www.anthonytanaka.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/3910396118_8dffc534c1-300x192.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="192" /></a>Today, as we reflect on the worst event that has ever happened on American soil, please remember those that gave their lives to save, as well as those whose lives were effected because of this event. Please remember our Military that is fighting over seas in Afghanistan to ensure that those who committed these acts of crime, will never forget that they attacked the wrong country. To add, please remember the civilians in those countries, those that have condemned the actions that were brought on us, as they are also effected and are living through hell as well. Please remember those that are of a different race or religion, that we must show love, instead of hate today. Some of the lives of those who follow Islam have also changed, and we must remember that a religion did not attack us that day. Extremists did, and those that took an oath of their religion to a despicable and heinous level, where their religion was never meant to be taken.</p>
<p>We must learn from history, to point the finger of justice towards those that committed the crimes, and not those that simply look like them, nor even those that practice the same culture. This has happened before during World War 2, and as American&#8217;s we are bigger than that, and we owe it to ourselves to respect every member of this nation, as those of a different color of skin, and those of a different religion are mourning with us today. If we don&#8217;t do this, as a small gesture of eliminating hate between different cultures, then we will only weaken. However, even in our darkest hours, I believe there are those that deep down want to make changes to improve the United States, restore it to full glory, and continue to set the standard for other nations to follow. We can only look in the mirror for the solutions to issues however, and by that commitment to ourselves, we can only accomplish our goals by unity.</p>
<p>Today, remember those who gave, remember those who lost, remember those who rescued, remember those who fought, and continue to fight, and remember each other. The United States isn&#8217;t made up of one culture, one religion, or one color of skin; and I firmly believe that that notion is our strongest asset, as long as we remember to love and be kind.</p>
<p>My thoughts and prayers are with the families effected, with our military over seas, with our fire and police departments today, as well as President Bush and President Obama. May we continue to persevere, and continue to show the world that the United States has not been pushed towards negative boundaries, but just as others have said, a sleeping giant has begun to wake up.</p>
